Listowners: Name Internet James Payne japayne@iupui.edu David Zeiger dzeiger@the-institute.net Drac drac@tp.net Inanna Arthen vyrdolak@net1plus.com alt.vampyres FAQ This is at http://www.altvampyres.net/newsgroup/faq/ and is posted regularly to the usenet group alt.vampyres. It contains a wealth of vampire-related information, including an extensive list of web sites. Archives of the Vampyres discussion list Available at http://www.the-institute.net/vampyres/archives/ Or send an e-mail to majordomo@the-institute.net with a message body of "index vampyres" to get a list of all files, or "get [filename]" to get a specific file. Note that these archives are not complete. They go back to September 1992, but chunks are missing. Many of the oldest logs from GUVM days are discussion-only -- no fluff. (Fluff originally was stored in a separate directory at the FTP site.) Later logs include both fluff and discussion. The FTP site will include fluff and other cool things once it reappears. The Vampyres archives now include a search engine! It's not fast, but it's there and should be self-explanatory. If you have questions, e-mail dzeiger@the-institute.net Birthday/Turnday list This list has been retired by its latest keeper, the Lady in Black , as of December 1999. It was originally compiled and maintained by Jester and was, in its latest keeper's words, "a compilation of listmember birthdays (duh) and Turndays (the day you Became What You Are (tm)." It was retired due to lack of listmember interest. The BlacK BooK: is a list of real names, persona names, e-mail and snail mail addresses of subscribers to Vampyres. The list was originally compiled by Bram, and in the past has been maintained by ^w^ Maus (^w^ is pronounced "Fleder") and Arthur Heath the Gargoyle. Its current keeper is Stardreamer . To obtain a copy of the Black Book, send a message to with the subject Black Book Request. The file is currently about 8 K. Inclusion in the Black Book is *voluntary* -- your personal information is not automatically added but is included only by individual request to the keeper of the Black Book. Requests posted to the list will be ineffectual. Please send additions, changes, and deletions to . FTP SITE The Vampyres FTP site is currently on hiatus. The Great and Powerful List (G&PL): is primarily a list of personae used on the VAMPYRES list. E-mail addresses are secondary. It was initiated by The Dream Vampyre; it has previously been handled by D-Singer; its current keeper is The Lady in Black . The aim of the G&PL is to prevent duplication of personae, so that we do not have more than one Ayesha, Bloofer, Firefly, etc. To obtain a copy of this list (currently about 12K), e-mail with the Subject: Get G&PL To add your persona to the list, use the subject line Add G&PL The body of the message should contain the Persona name, *exactly* as you want it registered (i.e., "Pointe du Lac, Louis" or "Dark Lord of the Sith, The"), and the e-mail address(es) you want it registered under. Questions about the G&PL should be directed to its keeper, who maintains and periodically posts a G&PL FAQ. Nonfiction Files: These include lists of vampire-related materials such as film and book lists, FAQs and various miscellaneous files, and reviews. This material is maintained by Vlad III and available in a "special" list-only area at the Vampyres Only web site, http://www.vampyres.com/misc/vampyres.html. The files are available in both HTML and Plain Text format. Note that you have to type in this URL directly, as this page isn't linked from anywhere else. Alternatively, you can e-mail to request files. Please ask him for the index so you can request files by number! Pathway to Darkness Located at , this is one of the Web's most comprehensive vampire sources. It includes not only essays and fiction but a bookstore, movie store, an electronic postcard center, message forums, and Vamp-Who, a searchable directory of things vampiric on the Net. Persona Bios List A list of VAMPYRES personas, giving characteristics and history of the characters we play on this part of the Internet, has been compiled by jarien, who hopes to update it every six months or so. The list was previously available from the holli.com server. I don't know its current status. Ravenscar is a separate mailing list. Fluff from the shared world of Ravenscar appears on VAMPYRES from time to time. If you would like to be part of this world, or just in on its secrets, you can subscribe to the Ravenscar Nights mailing list. Send a note to: Mailserv@drycas.club.cc.cmu.edu (send no subject line) and include the following in the text: subscribe ravenscar For information on Ravenscar Nights, the shared world mailing list, point your web browser to http://www.io.com/~tdark/Ravenscar/index.html. Ravenscar Nights is owned and operated by Jae Walker, aka E. Bathory (and a cast of thousands). You can contact Jae at jae+ravenscar-request@drycas.club.cc.cmu.edu for information and assistance in subscribing. The vampire comics list A list of appearances of the Kindred in comics was originated by Strider. It was enlarged and reorganized by the Mad Bibliographer, who lived to repent of her actions. The list is now in the keeping of the Lieutenant, who can be reached through dwar@earthlink.net. MadBib's out-of-date, needs-to-be- reorganized version of the list is available at Vampyres Only, http://www.vampyres.com/lists/lists_2.html. Vampire lifestyle lexicon The official Lexicon organized by COVICA (Council of Vampyric International Community Affairs) offers over 25 pages of in-depth and explained terms at http://www.vampyrenation.com/lexicon.html. The Vampspeak Dictionary is a glossary of terms used by habitues of the Vampyres list. (It's a dictionary of technical terms or, from a more cynical viewpoint, jargon.) The Vampspeak Dictionary was originated by Kiwi (now off-list): it, too, is in the keeping of the Mad Bibliographer, Cathy Krusberg (ckberg@ix.netcom.com; with Kiwi's kind permission), who posts it from time to time. It is also available on request. Vampyre White Pages http://www.caput-mortuum.com/vwp/index.html Maintained by Sabine, c667539@cclabs.missouri.edu, the Vampyre White Pages has links to homepages of listmembers and other vampire folks. If you want your homepage added, drop a note to the page maintainer. There is now a second Vampyre White Pages site, maintained by the Vario clan: http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/lefanu/40/index.html Vampyres@the-institute.net Web Site Yes, our list has its own web site! Archives of the list, info files, listmember links, and other neat stuff. http://www.the-institute.net/vampyres The Vampyres Family Album: Gone again, alas, due to a crash on Goltharan's hard drive. This is what it was: The Family Album was started in 1994 following the first Bloodstock as a web page where vampyres listmembers could post their pictures, e-mail address, interests, etc. so that other listmembers could get a better idea of whom they were conversing with. Another good web page: The "Vampyres Only" website, administered by Vlad III and jam-packed with cool stuff: http://www.vampyres.com/ You can find the vampire comics list here, among *many* other things. Some of the Mad Bibliographer's book reviews are at this web site also. INFO FILES Cathy Krusberg (that's me, folks) is the keeper of Info Files about the workings of Vampyres. I try to post these to the list once a month (and sometimes I even succeed!), to inform any who need to be informed and to refresh weary memories. Info Files are also available on request and at the Vampyres web site. ============================================================ What more is needed to make the Vampyres directory complete?
